The death of this estimable woman, wife and mother, is one of the saddest reminders of the frailty of human nature that has come to us in years. She was a beloved wife and the mother of nine children, all needing a mother's love, care and attention, the eldest, a daughter aged 19, and the youngest but two and a half years old. Her children are Grace, Martin, Ethel, Jessie, Gladys, Nina, Arthur, Donald and Julia. A daughter Winifred died Feb. 16, 1891 age five years. She had been ailing some time and gradually growing weaker until at last nature gave out, when her spirit passed on to the Great Beyond. Mary Ellen Lee was born in 1860 in Linn County, Iowa to Thomas and Lydia Tucker Lee; married in 1876 in Glenwood, Iowa, came to Fort Collins in 1882, and had since resided in this vicinity. The funeral took place at her late home on Wednesday, December 23, and was largely attended by relatives and sympathizing friends of the family. Buriel was at Grandview Cemetery. Rev. Franklin Moore preached the discourse. The sympathies of the entire community go out to the bereaved husband and his motherless children." (Mary Ellen was a sister to James Thomas Lee, Charles Addison Lee, Abraham Lincoln Lee, Oliver Wilson Lee, Louisa Lee Hyde and Isabell Lee Hyde.)
