Hi, Trying to find out what became of our Francis Shannon. Have heard there is a grave for a Francis Shannon in Lot 131 in one of the Glenwood, Iowa cemeteries. Our Francis was born about 1815-1820 in Pennsylvania, married Nancy Jane Allen in 1839 in Fayette County, Ohio. Was in Putnam County, Ohio in the 1860 to 1880 census and that's the last concrete evidence we have. Two of his daughters, Lucetta Shannon McDole/McDowell and Arvilla Shannon Mayberry moved from Ohio to Mills County, Iowa. I believe it was Arvilla's family who lived in the Glenwood area. That would be the family of James Harvy Mayberry (called Harvy). We know from a newspaper account that Nancy Jane, wife of Francis was in Mills County attending a grandson's wedding in the early 1880's. Would appreciate any information such as dates from the grave stone and/or an obituary. Anything that might tell us if that was our Francis. Welthy
According to Mills County Iowa Cemeteries (p. 72, Glenwood Cemetery): "The following names on the Works Progress Administration (WPA) listing circa 1938 were of Lot Owners, no dates. Some may be names of living persons and some buried elsewhere." Shannon, Francis, lot 131 is then listed as one of those names. And from p. 27 (also Glenwood Cemetery): MAYBERRY, Harvey 1840-1917 (Civil War - GAR) MAYBERRY, Avilla wf of Harvey 1840-1935 Keith Brandt Pensacola, Florida ----- Original Message ----- From: "wnachtigal" <wnachtigal@twlakes.net> To: <IAMILLS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 02, 2002 6:37 AM Subject: [IAMILLS] Grave of Francis Shannon | Hi, | | Trying to find out what became of our Francis Shannon.
