John was born May 10, 1915 in Thurman, Iowa to Loin N. Barbour and E. Pearl (Nix) Barbour. On May 22, 1937, he was married to Velora F. Field in Glenwood, Iowa. John graduated from Tabor High School in 1933, and attended Iowa State University. He worked for many years with Bloedel Hardware in Tabor, Iowa, and later worked at the Glenwood State Hospital School. John was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Glenwood American Legion Post, and was a Ham Radio operator most of his life. John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert F. Barbour. He is survived by his wife, Velora Barbour of Glenwood; two daughters, Anna Pearl Haverty and husband Dale of Nebraska City, Nebraska, and Tamara Uloth and husband Paul of Brooklyn Par, Minnesota; three sons, John Barbour and wife Lorna of Glenwood, Steven Barbour and Eric Barbour both of Omaha, Nebraska; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Ross Barbour and wife Miriam of Tucson, Arizona; numerous nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2000 at the Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald D. McGee of the Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Iowa officiating. Visitation was open after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and there were a Knights of Pythias service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Chapel. Memorial go to the Grace United Methodist Church in Glenwood, Iowa, and interment was in the Tabor, Iowa Cemetery. The Crawford-Marshall Funeral Chapel in Tabor, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.
