I have been asked by so many who didn't receive this message if I would re-send it. For those of you who did get it please just hit the delete key. Hi Listers, Margaret has just uploaded the 1885 Births for Mills County. This probably concludes the posting of Births for a while and on to something else. (Since this was sent we have added the 1903 Marriages and the Surname Registry has been updated) We wanted to alert you to the ailing Search Engine. We have probably maxed out the number of pages the Search Engine will handle. It tells us that it is searching 529 pages and we have quite a few more than that. Just be aware that Solomon's History, the 1880 Rawles Twp., the Surname Registry, the 1903 marriages, the 1885 births and probably other things are not being searched. You can always use the "Find" or "Find in Page" to search a page. I am back from a 3 week vacation. I was able to spend 3 days in Glenwood and other Mills County locations. Did some research on my own family this year. As usual, Denise Crawford and the staff at the Library continued to be extremely helpful. Those of us interested in Mills County should be grateful we have such people to work with. I have a suggestion. Would some of you like to help out the Mills County Genealogical Society? They would sure appreciate some new members. All their membership dues and/or donations go into a fund to buy new genealogical books for the Library. They have a great collection for a library of that size. Much of the material on our Mills web site has been copied from collections found at the library. Membership Dues are only $4.00 per year due in January. Membership entitles you to 4 issues of the newsletter. You may have one query with each issue. There are many Mills people who subscribe who don't have a computer so you reach a new group of researchers. Rachel Carlile, a volunteer from the Genealogical Society, comes in every Tuesday to answer the queries and requests that come in by snail mail and e-mail. They have one of the best obituary files I have ever run across. They charge only $5.00 per hour plus photocopying charges. One of the best bargains in genealogy. Contact Mills County Genealogical Society, c/o Glenwood Public Library, 109 N. Vine, Glenwood IA 51534 or if you want to use your e-mail contact me for directions. By the way, I was alerted by one of the list members that the Fremont-Mills Beacon-Enterprise, the newspaper, is now online. It is kind of fun to look even if their information is too recent for our purposes, usually. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?brd=2043 (Another new URL is http://www.millscountyiowa.com/ It is a welcome to Mills County towns, interesting.)
