Now I really have a quandry! The 1885 Census- Center Twp Family #41 (as posted to Mills Co. site) shows the following: Surface, Jacob, 47 / m / married / Minister U.B. / IN Surface, Melissa, 40 / f / married / IN Surface, George, 24 / m / Farmer / IA, Fremont Surface, Taylor, 22 / m / Farmer / IA, Fremont Silcott, Landon, 20 / m / Farmer / IA, Mills Surface, Ellsworth, 19 / m / IN (plus a family by the name of FLETCHER) So -- my theory is that the Landon Silcott shown here is probably Landon, Jr. My guess is that Landon, Sr. must have died and Melissa Cary remarried the Rev. Jacob Surface....... Is there any way to prove this? Thanks, Pam
Pam, I haven't had time to go through this complicated situation but if you haven't already looked to to http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/marriage/m80-85/85mgsp56.htm and look at the last marriage on the page. Certainly has me confused. The 1985 Mills History shows in a short bio for Rev. Philip Surface that he was the son of Rev. Jacob Surface and second marriage, Melissa Carey Silcott Fletcher. So that seems to make it more clear. Cay WesBlair wrote: > > Now I really have a quandry!
