    1. [IAMILLS] NEW ADDITIONS
    2. Cay Merryman
    3. Hi Listers, There has been new information added to the Mills County web site this week. The 1870 Rawles Township census is now online in addition to the index which has been there for some time. Also the surname list has been updated again. We had the Rheba Raines Obituary Collection in our "What's New" box for a couple of weeks and in addition to that we have the Rheba Raines Newspaper Collection which is new. That is not in the "What's New" box but rather is on the left side of the main page in alpha order. This includes miscellaneous newspaper clippings and clippings about weddings. Thanks Eldon Clark. About 20 more visits to our Mills County USGenWeb pages and we will have reached the total of 40,000 visitors since Margaret put a counter on our web site in February of 1998. Actually Margaret and I started working on these pages in April of 1997, that is 4 1/2 years ago. Thanks to all of you list subscribers. You have made it possible for us to remain dedicated to doing what we can for Mills County genealogy. Actually when only a couple of people on our list live in Mills County it has been a bit difficult at times to find material to post. Happy Holidays and Good Hunting Cay and Margaret -- Cay Merryman http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/

    3. Hi Juanita, Although, as you, I am still confused in many ways about the new Message Boards, the more I use them the better it gets. There are a few things that are an improvement but mostly I would rather have the old GenConnect system but it isn't going to return so we might as well do our best to understand the new way. I will start from the beginning and see if I can help. As a user you can start out with this URL http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=main&r=rw If you want to go to Mills County you would click on U.S.States Next click on Iowa Next click on Counties Next click on Mills Next type in McCord in the search and be sure to click on Mills County Board It comes up with 9 mentions of postings on the Mills site that contain the name McCord. They are all but one posted by Tim McCord. Of course if you know how to copy and paste a 2 line URL you can go directly to Mills County by clicking on http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=localities.northam.usa.states.iowa.counties.mills That bypasses all the other URLs I would suggest once you find Mills County you bookmark it, or put it in your favorites so you don't have to go through this process again. If there are other problems please contact me again. -- Cay Merryman http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/ Juanita Jamison wrote: > > Maybe I'm dense, but the new message boards are very confusing. Mr. Solomon was the father of Hon. D. H. Solomon and the father-in-law of Hon. Jno. Y. Stone. In 1856, Mr. Solomon removed to Glenwood from Fulton county, Illinois of which county he was a prominent citizen. He was for years clerk of the county, when the great departed Stephen A. Douglass was the presiding judge and Abraham Lincoln a practicing lawyer. The qualities that commended the deceased in his early days he retained in his new home. For a quarter of a century he has been a vigorous and honorable worker here in life's strife. His business reputation as a real estate dealer is known favorably throughout all southwestern Iowa. Public spirited, of generous impulses, a faithful friend, a kind father and upright citizen and honest man, Mr. Solomon leaves a name which others more known to some might well envy.
