    1. [IAMILLS] NEW INFORMATION - MILLS COUNTY WEB SITE
    2. Cay Merryman
    3. Hi Friends, Margaret and I have taken a little vacation this month but are up and running again and hope to continue posting records which will help you in your research. Margaret and her husband flew from TN to UT to visit us for a few days this month. We made lots of plans for the future of the Mills County web site. New information on the Mills web site include the 1895 state census of Hillsdale, a small town in Center township at that time. Also we are excited to have received some records of the early branches of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Mills County. These came from the Archives of the church which was recently re-named Community of Christ. If you have early LDS or RLDS ancestors or relatives, or even if you don't, you will certainly enjoy browsing through the membership records and reading descriptions of those early branches. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. Cay and Margaret -- Cay Merryman http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/

    2. Linda Willuweit-Joy
    3. Carol, I really don't think we are going to find any connections. I guess we should have both clarified what years we were talking about. Several of my HAINESes moved to Mills Co around 1870... almost 50 years before your HAINEYs lived there. From the list of children I gave you before, I descend from child #6, Elizabeth HAINES (1835-1928) m. Bailey M. PETTY (1832-1899) [my gg grandparents]. They lived in Mills Co from around 1889?-1895?, moved to Benton Co MO for a short time and then to Cass Co NE about 1897. (Took the looong way ~around~ the river! <G> ) Bailey died in Cass Co in 1899 and so did his wife in 1928. Since the other HAINESes were collateral lines, I've only traced some of them an additional generation or two. However most of them moved on to NE, KS, and MT. The only HAINES descendants who I believe are still in the vicinity (desc of child #11) moved to Pottawattamie Co before 1906. 3. Scott - thanks so much for your help. I am looking for a Catherine/Kathryn/Katie Mackey and son Walter. Walter died around 1854; Kathryn died around 1859. They lived somewhere around Anderson twp/Mud creek area, I think, although I am uncertain as they evidently rented their farm. 3. Is this the Katherine Mackey, wife of John, listed in the 1856 census of Nishnabotna Township? Children listed are Albert, Joan, Wm. Not listed in the Mills County Cemetery book although several Mackeys are. Nishnabotna Twp. was later Mud Creek and then Anderson. Probably you have already found this on the Mills web site. Most of my family lived in the township of Lyons. I have McDowell, Tague, Fitch, Shannon, Hutchinson, Wilson, to name a few. I have looked for Samuel Hipsher ( can be spelled many ways) and have not been able to find him. I know his wife Sarah (Duncan) Hipsher is buried in Glenwood. She passed away on January 1896 and had been a widow for quite some time. Found them in the 1870 federal census and they were living in Glenwood. Certainly would appreciate any help I can get on any of these surnames that have listed above. Thanks Inez

This was in the Glenwood Opinion July 1902. Does anyone have any idea who Squire Lee is? I've not located this name in any of my Lee research. Viola

    3. Pam, I haven't had time to go through this complicated situation but if you haven't already looked to to http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/marriage/m80-85/85mgsp56.htm and look at the last marriage on the page. Certainly has me confused. The 1985 Mills History shows in a short bio for Rev. Philip Surface that he was the son of Rev. Jacob Surface and second marriage, Melissa Carey Silcott Fletcher. So that seems to make it more clear. Cay WesBlair wrote: > > Now I really have a quandry! 1. Re: [IAMILLS] Abel Carey...Carey Burial Ground
    2. Pam: The Carey burying ground is the North Grove Cemetery in the NE l/4 of the NE l/4 of Section 29, Indian Creek Township in Mills County. It is one and one-half miles east of Hastings, Iowa. Mills County marriages show a Landin W. Silcott and Melissa Cary married Feb 22, 1860 by E.A. Morse, J.P. - no further information given. I think you'll find Silkett the most popular spelling. Abel Cary (1852-1923) is buried next to a Mary R. Cary (1856-1939) in the cemetery at Hasting. They are next to each other but have separate stones. Bev
