    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: HUNSINGER; RETHEMEIER; MULLIGAN; SPEARMAN; KING; SNYDER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nk.2ADI/676.1 Message Board Post: To: Cay Merryman, researcher, or any descendants of Verona HUNSINGER I was surfing the web -- on Google.com -- and for fun put in my grandmother's surname: RETHEMEIER, and surprise, surprise, your transcription of Verona HUNSINGER's will appeared. She is my great-great-grandmother. Verona HUNSINGER, as I understand it, came from Switzerland, and was married to a man who was a translator. When she had her last child, Edith RETHEMEIER, her husband was injured and possibly died. Feeling as if they were unable to care for a sixth child, Edith was adopted by a ROBINSON family. I thought most of this happened in Mount Pleasant, IA. Edith HUNSINGER was born approximately 1867. As the will states, she was bequested a sum of $1.00 as she was well-cared for by her adoptive parents. Edith married George RETHEMEIER in the Mount Pleasant area in the late 1880s. They eventually settled in the Arvilla/Larimore, ND area, where they farmed. The farm is now part of the Grand Forks Air Force Base. George RETHEMEIER died about 1926 (?) and is buried in Iowa. Edith died in 1949 and is buried in the Arvilla Cemetery in North Dakota. They had four children: 1890 - Mabel RETHEMEIER, m. Jim MULLIGAN. Educated in Mount Pleasant schools, she lived most of her adult life in Warwick, ND where she was a rural mail carrier. She died about 1974 in Jamestown, ND. I believe she had about five children, three sons and two daughters including Joe, Hazel and Maude (ROTH). Her husband died in the 1920s and she was a widow many years. 1893 - Nellie RETHEMEIER, m. Lyall SPEARMAN. Educated in Mount Pleasant schools, she lived most of her adult life in Warwick, ND and in the Gilby, Honeyford area of North Dakota. She and Lyall had five daughters: 1918 - Nellie (BJORNSON); 1919 - Grace (SWANSON); 1921 - Jean (SNYDER); 1924 - Norma (JUHLKE) and 1930 - Martha (BERG)(SPEAR). Nellie RETHEMEIER SPEARMAN died in Honeyford, ND in 1938 of cancer. 1895 - Mary RETHEMEIER, m. Jerome KING. Educated in Mount Pleasant schools, she spent most of her adult life in the Grand Forks, ND area. Her husband was a rural mail carrier. They had at least four children including Richard, Earl, Marilyn and Edith (BERGSRUDE). In her later years, Mary RETHEMEIER KING was a house mother for a sorority in Grand Forks. She died about 1970. Jerome died about 1950. 1910 - George RETHEMEIER, m. Mabel VISNESS. A "caboose" kid, probably born in North Dakota, after the family relocated from Mount Pleasant, IA. Gorge and Mabel had about 6 kids, including Ernest, Joyce, Arnold, Linda and Louise (twins). Goege died in 1992 and Mabel in 1996. They farmed most of their adult lives in Grand Forks County, ND. I am Dave SNYDER, born in 1955 in Munising, MI, and presently living in San Francisco. I am the son of Jean SPEARMAN SNYDER and the grandson of Nellie RETHEMEIER SPEARMAN. Dave SNYDER 1955 Jean SPEARMAN SNYDER 1921-2000 Nellie RETHEMEIER SPEARMAN 1893-1938 Edith HUNSINGER ROBINSON RETHEMEIER 1867-1949 Verona HUNSINGER 1830 (?)-19?? I would be very interested in learning more about Verona HUNSINGER. When did she die? Did she die in Mills County, IA? I wonder if my great-grandmother kept in touch with her mother and any of her five brothers and sisters mentioned in the will, even though she'd been adopted? When did Verona's husband die and what was his name? Thanks, Dave Snyder 1127 Russia Avenue San Francisco, CA 94112 (415) 584-4423 DaveS1025@aol.com
