    1. [IAMILLS] WILLIAMS, John
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Williams Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nk.2ADI/783 Message Board Post: THE LEADER THURSDAY, MARCH 8, 1888 John Williams Gone to His Reward. Tuesday morning, after a protracted illness, Uncle John Williams, as he was familiarly called, passed from the scenes of earth to his reward above. For several months the old gentleman had been very feeble, which added to his advanced age, indicated that, the summons to another and better life would not be long delayed. Since last fall he had been confined to his home nearly all the time and to his bed several weeks, although on a very few occasions he was able to come down town. One day several weeks ago, while out for a short walk, Uncle John slipped and fell heavily to the ground, receiving such injuries that it was necessary to assist him home. From that fall he did not fully recover and it no doubt hastened his death. Although much of the time suffering greatly, Mr. Williams bore all with true Christian fortitude and died with a bright hope beyond the mystic river. While possessing but a small share of this world's goods, he was an expectant millionaire, for he had wisely laid up his treasures in heaven. The hope that "over there" he would enjoy greter riches than this world can give, cheered him in his declining hours. Deceased was born in Montgomery County, New York, in February, 1815, and died on the morning of March 6, 1888, a few weeks more than 75 years of age - having more than lived out his three-score and ten years. While quite young he removed from his native state to Sangamon County, Illinois, where he continued to reside until 36 years ago when he came to Iowa, settling in Johnson County. From the latter place he removed to the vicinity of Malvern 25 years ago. At the age of 22 years he united with the M. E. church, but the last 36 years of his life was spent in the Baptist Church, of which he was a faithful and consistent member until the day of his death. In 1839 he was joined in marriage to Margarette Proctor, and was the father of nine children, four of whom - two sons and two daughters - with the aged wife survive to cherish his memory. Uncle John was a kind and devoted husband, an affectionate father, a good citizen and a true christian. Peace to his ashes. The funeral services occurred at the Baptist Church yesterday

    2. Cay Merryman
    3. Here are the film #'s and contents for the Vital Statistics films I have in my local FHC. I will attempt to do lookups for those on this list without promises of success. Some of the records have indexes, some do not. Some have mixed pages sometimes without indication of what page to go to next. 1. [IAMILLS] ANOTHER REQUEST
    2. Cay Merryman
    3. I have had a request from another subscriber to the Mills mailing list for information in the 1910-1920 time period. I doubt we will ever get into records from that period of time. Too recent for most researchers. Here is what I will do. I will check the microfilms I have on loan at the FHC and see how late the time period is for vital statistics. I will post the time frames on the mailing list and offer to do lookups, for mailing list subscribers only, if you can give me enough information. This will take a little time to check out. This is usually not too difficult but there are periods of time where there are no indexes so I need specific years. No Search Engines to help here. Meanwhile I will start on 1886 births tomorrow. 2. gt
    3. Hello, Cay and Margaret, Your site provides so much more than almost any other that I hesitate to suggest still more, but--you did ask! Would it be possible to continue adding vital records into or further into the 20th century? I have a number of people I'm researching who were born in the 1890s, and it's hard to trace them (especially the women). The births, marriages, and deaths you've already posted have been so helpful that I realize how very useful they can be. 1. [IAMILLS] NEW INFORMATION
    2. Cay Merryman
    3. Hello Listers, In our effort to post everything we can about Mills County, we have just added the 1870 Census of the Iowa Soldiers Orphan Home in Glenwood. There are over 90 children listed. How many of them came from the Mills County area cannot be known but some probably did. If you have a suggestion regarding the information you would like to see on our Mills County web site, or anything else you can suggest to make our web site an interesting place to browse, please send it to one of us. There are 167 people on our mailing list at the present time. A tip for the newer ones. We keep posting old wills on our Mills Message Boards. There are at least 93 wills there. After you have checked the Will Index on our main page, this would be a good place to check to see if a will for your ancestor is listed. Just put Will in the Classification Box and it will show those wills that are posted. Although I didn't count the obituaries, there must be more than 150 posted on the Message Boards. Just put Obituaries in the Classification Box. Thanks to all. Cay and Margaret
