Patik, son of Frank and Anna (Hasso) Patik, was born on Sunday, December 20, 1908 near Evans in Mahaska County, Iowa. He served his country during WW II from May 1942 until discharged December 1945, in the US Army, and served in the western Pacific, and received a commendation from the commanding General of the 81st Infantry Wildcat Division. Following his discharge, he returned to the Oskaloosa area and worked on road construction for a while. Later, he operated a dragline for the Patik Coal Company, his father's business, for many years. In 1958, he began farming east of Oskaloosa until he sold the farm in 2002. He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Marion Council 4108 of the Knights of Columbus, and the Bishop Gerald O'Keefe Assembly, 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He loved the outdoors, farming, planting and caring for trees. He is survived by 2 brothers: Joseph Patik of Oskaloosa and George (& Lorraine) Patik of Covina, CA; 3 sisters: Anges Scanlon of Oskal! oosa, Sister Claire Marie Patik, CHM, of Davenport, and Margaret Rourke of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Andrew, Frank, and the Rev. Anthony Patik; and 2 sisters: Helen and Mary Patik. Services were by Rev. Robert Busher. Honorary bearers: Dale Aeschliman, Bob Hammes, Francis Martin, and Mark Rempe. Casket bearers: Mike Scanlon, Bob Harten, John Patik, Pat Scanlon, Paul Scanlon, and Jerry Sullivan. Gravesite Military Rites: Oskaloosa American Legion and VFW. Arrangements by Bates Funeral Chapel.
