Surnames: SHUEY, OLIVER, CLEVETT Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fl.2ADE/1833.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: After reading your followup I see that we do have a connection! Sherman has evaded me with who he married and his children. I see that John H. Shuey was one of his children according to your followup. John H. Shuey was probably named after John H. Stiller who went by the name of Clevett for nearly all his life in order to evade imprisonment by the British. 1860 US Fed. Lucizth "Lucy" Leticia Clevett There is a great story behind John H. Clevett. I had meant to do more research on Sherman and now I will get on it. William Shuey had a Civil War Career.Civil War info.-William Shue, Union Armed Forces, Company D,142 Reg., Volunteer, 3 Sept. 1864, Kendallville, IN-out Jul 28, 1865 Nashville, TN. In a copy of his Civil War records it is written that he served aboard the gunboat M.S. Baird. I have not located information on this gunboat but have read that there is a M. S. Baird or Beard out of Nashville and this may be the same ship. Martha Jarvis of Hillsboro, TN has been in touch noting that her family member John T. Abston fled to Nashville where he fought for the Union, CO A, 3rd IL Cal. Sept. 1862-May 1865 and was on the ships the M. V. or M. S. Beard (possibly Baird).
