I've posted most info to the Poweshiek County Board, because we know they lived in Deep River. Much info that we have I have posted to Iowa lists. Anywhere I thought might ring a bell for someone. And on the Rootsweb RSL listings. http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/message/an/localities.northam.usa.states.iowa.counties.poweshiek/45.1.2 There were a few James Morrison's in Poweshiek County, from the 1850's to 1898. I've found none who link up specifically with the info we have covering the next generation. Scanty at best, on James, our great-grandfather. George, our grandfather, born 1878, first born of 5 sons of James Morrison and Emma Roland. Emma's family was from Illinois, thus the brief stay there, documented by the above link to the 1880 Illinois Census data. We think he died between 1890 and 1895. Emma had re-married a Myron Brigham by the 1895 Iowa Special Census, all the kids are listed. It's also possible James had a previous marriage and could be related to other Poweshiek Co. Morrison's. Death or divorce may have severed that tie. But, that's just pure conjecture! James is a common name, as is Morrison. We have no idea of the names of James' parents. All I know is that James lived in Deep River and Montezuma, and "did some preaching" in some capacity! Talk about a needle in a hays! tack! The thing about Rosebud is, that grandpa was supposedly born in Rosebud, Iowa. The primary find for a search is the Rosebud Sioux reservation.... in South Dakota. Makes little sense, unless they were affiliated with Iowa Rosebud Sioux somehow, at an older encampment, before the Indian Wars there. My aunt's birth cert states Grandpa George was born in Deep River, 1878. So, where or what "Rosebud" actually was is the mystery! It's not a known Ghost Town, stagecoach or railroad stop. James evidently kept a low profile, I can't find him, positively, anyway! George did live in Deep River, Montezuma, and Swan, before moving to Des Moines about 1914. I've had the Poweshiek and Marion County Historical Societies search through their files as well. I posted to the Mahaska list because I was told that Poweshiek and Mahaska Counties were once together. A long shot in looking for James, and Rosebud. There is no family reference to suggest Mahaska County, but who knows???? Haven't asked Mahaska to search yet. James and George were multi-talented multi-taskers, from the sounds of it. I know for sure, George was! I'm 2000 miles away. Thanks for your kind offer. I wouldn't have you knock yourself out looking, but, keep me in mind.
