Surnames: Gale, Woodworth Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/Fl.2ADE/1780 Message Board Post: In researching my family in Mahaska County, I have come across several references to towns being settled/begun by people from Vermont. Often they were Methodists or people of other denominations that came west to Iowa. SInce my ancestors were born in Vermont, this was very interesting to me. I am trying to figure out why they came to Iowa and this may have been one reason..does anyone have any thoughts or information about Vermonters settling towns in Mahaska County? thank you

The house is gone now, moved to Beacon. I moved in 1958 a few blocks east. Thanks.

Since the last time I talked to you, I have found new information about my Carver family. I found the Marriage record for Curtis Carver, son of Pleasant Carver and Rachel A. Graham married to Jennie May Jones, daughter of F. A. Jones and Belle Unknown. They were married in Mahaska County, Iowa on September 04, 1895. They must have gotten a divorce soon after my grandmother was born as I found Jennie living with a J. Linford Small on the 1900 Mahaska county census. I then found marriage records where Jennie Carver marred J. Linford Small February 24, 1901 in Mahaska County, Iowa. Curtis was remarried to Martha Debruyn.
