(Cooper) Conklin. She was born about 1855 in Mahaska County, Iowa (That was census info, don't have the birth record) to Jeremiah N. (or J.N.) Cooper and Zilpha Talbot (or Tlabott). Philemon Bliss Conklin and Alice A. Cooper married December 25, 1883 in Mahaska County, Iowa. I do not have the source info to back it up the marriage, but the man who posted the marriage date on ancestry.com noted that he got it from a 2000 Mahaska Heritage book. Do you have any info on them? John H. was no longer listed with the family unit in Oskaloosa after the 1850 census. 2) I presume the Elizabeth shown in the 1850 census, is also the child that is sometimes shown as Mary E. on some records, whom married Abraham Dillon? 3) By 1880 Eldora no longer appears in Oskaloosa. Did she marry or die? 4) I have not been able to locate where Ellis lived in the 1870 census since he was not noted. By 1880 he pops back up and was married to a Nettie and living in Deadwood. Do you have any information when he left the Iowa nest and Nettie's maiden name. Do you know when and where he died. Thanks
Greetings, I have followed this post for some time now. Some of you may know my story. For several years I have been searching for information regarding the family of Abijah Johnson, Rebecca O'Neall Johnosn>Hawkins>Ransom. This family was from Henry County, Oskaloosa, Iowa also Quakers of Corwin Ohio. The reason for my search was to find a direct descendant to return some very old family letters that were obtained from a yard sale. A long story short..... I searched for over ten years, and with the help of Rootsweb, and Historical Societies, I was finally able to find a home for the lost letters. I found the G-G-G- Grandson of Rebecca O'Neall Johnson to whom the letters were written. What an incredible journey this has been. I am very excited and a little sad at the same time, but happy that I completed my mission of returning these wonderful family heirlooms. I would like to thank everyone not only in this list, but others a well. I have learned so much about genealogy and that there are some wonderful and kind people out there who took the time to respond to inquiries. I have enjoyed the stories and articles of posting so much. I wish you all a Happy Holiday Season, and may your journey of finding you family tree be a happy and successful one. Marcia

I am looking for a particular family and any information that can be discovered. Alice B. (Cooper) Conklin: Death date is about 1895 from what I can tell. The only details I can find are from a newspaper clipping on her son Chester Conklin's (Of Keystone Kop fame) childhood and career. I have been unable to find proof other than the clippings on her movie star son. She was found dead in a garden next to the Conklin home, she had been burned to death after her clothing had been soaked in oil. Her husband Philemon Bliss Conklin (B: June 1858 in Illinois) was accused of the murder. According to the newspaper clipping: Chester was the oldest of three children of Mr. and Mrs. Phil Conklin of Oskaloosa. Chester had a sister, Cheline, and a brother, Roscoe. One morning in 1895, when Chester was about 8 years old, his mother was found dead in a garden next to the Conklin home. She had been burned to death after her clothing had been soaked in oil. After testimony that she had been despondent, the coroner ruled her death a suicide. Later Chester's father was arrested and charged with the slaying. The first trial was at Oskaloosa. The jury disagreed and no verdict was reached. The second trial, after a change of venue, was at Washington, IA. This time Chester's father was acquitted. I am looking for death, burial/cemetery records for Alice. I am also looking for proof of this court case and the details behind it, Newspaper Clippings from local papers at the time stating an obituary or something. Her death has been a mystery for so long and I have exaughsted all my own resources at this time (Can't get to Iowa to check records myself). Any help you can give me would be much appreciated as this has been a serious brick wall for the decendants of the family. Thank you for your time and thank you for your offer of help. Let me know if you need anything else as far as information, but I have pretty much given everything I could already. Sincerely, Chi Benedict

My aun't birth cert has grandpa George being born in Deep River, family lore has always given his birthplace as Rosebud. Perhaps I should check the history of Rose Hill as well. I don't see an immediate relationship between the folks buried in those cemeteries and my group. Perhaps Joseph was a brother or perhaps a nephew to James? If so, he would be 4 years younger than James' son George. What a mystery!
