When I was a child in the sixties, my grandparents would drive in from rural Macksburg for groceries and other shopping. If the folks had different errands, they would always arrange to meet "on the square". What is neat about the square in Winterset is that although many of the businesses have changed, it still has the same look and feel as it did in that time.
