My brick wall is James Smith (easy name to search), b. 1828 IRL (father may also be James); married Persis Ann Dunwell (she is well researched back to Rev. War)1852 in Cuyahoga Co. OH; lived in Cherry Valley, Winnebago Co., IL when son Albert J(ames?) was born 1858. James was a butcher and meat market proprietor in St. Charles when he died in 1889. He arrived in U.S. July 1846 and was probably naturalized as he was eligible to vote in 1885. Grandma always said her family was "Scotch-Irish" and the Smiths were not Catholic so suspect James came from the North. I would sure like to know about his ancestry. I have two death notices which are jewels of the florid writing style popular then. Judy
