    3. Have done alot of digging for gggrandfather in Madison County. County people and library people are very friendly and helpful. Hard to beat the assistance they have given me. Think the reason for looking in Des Moines is that there are two periods in the 20th Cent when the vital records were all sent to the state and the county is blank for those periods. If the state doesnt have the records you wish, it is a good possibility, they never got them, and they are in the county. Good luck.
