Dear Evelyn, I feel the same frustration. I have learned that there were a lot of Howards in MA! Orma Howard, who was a school teacher in St. Charles, IA told my mother back in the 1970's that we are descended from a Richard Howard. I can't find any trace of a "Richard." The other story is that Richard came over to fight for the British, hid in a cornfield, and then joined the American side. My Mom's not sure when this happened. If Richard is George's father, then the War of 1812 would be most logical. It could have been the Revolutionary War if it was a grandfather. As you can see, I too am grasping at straws.
