    3. Nothing in afton. I drive through there about once every 3 weeks. Try county court house in Creston for info. You are in SW Iowa and not too many folks live down in that part of the world any more. Good people , but not many left. Populations has dropped every census for the last 30+ years. Good luck. Might not be much of a "society " in Creston. Best first bet is information for phone no. of county clerk, call there to see what they have, and what is available in the county. These low population counties have about he same number of employees as the large ones, and not much to do. Are much more generous with theire time and efforts . 3. Afton is a small community of about 900 people right on the junctionof Hwy 34 and 169 in S. W. Iowa. Creston is county seat. Would bet the county clerk can get you probate, maybe a will, death cert should be available for those after 1880. Good luck cdp Cindyburd@aol.com wrote: > Does anyone know where Afton is? The daughters names were Sarah b. 1833 and Mary Anna b. Oct 1836. Mary Anna John Johnson and 2nd Thomas Ruenkle, she died in Madison County in 1914. We are very close, very close indeed. Have a William R. Smith b. 1837 Franklin Ky, m Sarah Dill, d/o John Dill of Keokuk County, Clear Creek Twsp 28 Dec 1856 in Keokuk county Iowa. They moved to Jefferson Township, Adair Co Ia. Had 8 kids one of which is Samuel and another Rebecca. Where are we tied? Please answer. If you are half way across the county will catch this up better when I get back to Madison and Adair county. The smiths that I have sometime before any of their kids died or were married left Adair county, and havent a trace of them. Maybe these are the ones in Ks. Reason I hope so is that John Dills oldest son went to what is now Lyon Ks, and when died at the age of 43 was considered an old pioneer. Alot of this particular group of people , and I mean as many as 7-8 families ended up in Ks. Please drop me a not about your ideas. 2. Jessica Zielinski
    3. Thank you ~ Cynthia Hughart for the link to the cemteries. I had fun searching ...found some relatives too. Quick introduction: I was part of this mailing list once before, some may remember. I am mainly researching the surname DORRELL (my brick wall to date is Nicholas DORRELL b. 1857 d. 1923 and his wife Mary Jane BELCHER b. 1864 d. 1936) I'm looking for any info someone may have. The GORDON/CLARK/CLANTON line is pretty well established don't need much info there. I'm looking for info on Ruth and Caleb CLARK, specifically Caleb CLARK's parent's (Phineas CLARK and Charlotte SMITH). If anyone has any info pertaining to the above or even a link to a site that might provide info I would greatly appreciate it. Sincerely, Jessica Zielinski

    1. Re: [IAMADISO-L] Marriage Records Mad.Co.IA
    2. I know that people have done marriage look-ups for people and posted them to the list. I found some of my marriages that way. You could post a query and ask if there's someone that is able to do that for you. However, I have not seen a complete marriage list on this sight in the last year. If no one is available to go to the courthouse, a good way to get Madison Co. births, marriages ect. is to order the films from the local Family History Center. The LDS church has filmed Madison Co. records. For those of us who can't easily travel to Madison Co., it's a nice alternative. Hope this helps. Pam

    3. Dorothy and Thelma, I will be in Macksburg soon and plan to go out to Moon Cemetery south of town - I will look for a marker for Wm. M. Shoemaker. My William Wright was not the spouse of Annette Shoemaker. He married once, to Clarissa Hasty, and they are buried in Bedford, IA. He was a civil war veteran of the 4th IA Infantry. Good hunting, Doug P.S. If I find info for you in Moon Cemetery, I will post it on the list for you. 3. I am pretty sure the cemeteries of Madison County have not been on the Madison County web site...ever. They might have been some place else. It is not a question of "putting them back on" because they have never been there, at least not in the 2 years I have been working with Madison County. 3. Hi, My brick wall is finding the parents of Campbell HUGHART who was born in the Adair/Green County areas of KY in 1812. He married Mary Ann BLAIR 17 Dec 1835 in Adair Co., KY. He died in Cass County,IA in 1890. Their children were: James Milton, Sarah Jane (Cason), Mary Eliza (Shannon), Young Alexander, Melvina Elizabeth (Howell), Eliza Almarise, Bellzona(Sarah's daughter), William Marion, John Blair. Reverends of the United Brethren in Christ Church, Campbell HUGHART, John BLAIR, Richard ARMSTRONG led two large groups out of KY into Madison County, IA as a result of the slavery issue. They were abolitionists and getting resistance from their KY neighbors. They established the Blair Chapel in Madison Co.,and many are buried in the Blair Chapel cemetery. I have some evidence that a Mary "Polly" Clark Baldridge of NC was Campbell's mother and that his father died when he was young so she remarried a James Polk WISDOM in KY. Her children with Unknown HUGHART were: Campbell, Young, Sarah (Sally). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! Cynthia Hughart
