I subscribed to the list several weeks ago but have not posted any information on my Madison County ancestor, Otho WOLF. Other postings are coming through, however. Update: I just found some census information that places Osiah in Wapello, Iowa for the 1850 census. So far I have not seen the census info, just the index listing for Osiah. By the way I live in central CT in the Hartford, Wethersfield area. I am willing to try to help people who need early family information from this area. Genforum now has a page for Madison County, Iowa. You can access it through the Iowa State page. My message about Osiah and his family that I put on the page is lonely. It needs company. Hello All, Sorry for the trouble, but some kook sabotaged my e-mail subscriptions to the Rootsweb.com mailing lists. I can still receive postings to my USER683614@AOL.COM box, or here. I also have about a dozen screen names with two other Internet providers, so if those of you who I am helping will e-mail me privately, I'll give them to you. I hope this problem will resolve itself. Sincerely, Kevin O'Brien Laguna Hills, CA
Hello to the Great State of Iowa, I am searching for any information anyone can provide me with regard to the surname TARRANT and FEDEREN. Both families lived in various parts of the state, but spent quite a bit of time in the Minneapolis area. I am searching for PHILIP FEDEREN (1883) and his wife EDITH FEDEREN (1884) and their two children FABIOLA TARRANT (1897) and CECILE TARRANT (1893). They were last known to be in the Twin Cities area in 1944, but their descendants could be anywhere by now. They were relatives of GEORGE A. SHANNON AND ISABELLA (McDonald) SHANNON of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, and their son ROBERT D. SHANNON, who was last known around 1942-44 to be living in Spencer, Iowa. Robert's wife was named JESSE and his children were ANNABELLE and GEORGE, also of Chippewa Falls, WI. Any information regarding these families or their descendants would be greatly appreciated. Because I work with so many different counties and web sites I am constantly getting my counties mixed up. I said Steve had Mills County roots when of course I meant Madison County roots. Sorry about that, it probably won't be the last mistake of that kind that I make. Cay
Hi all, Just wanted all of you to know that Madison County has a new County Coordinator. His name is Steven Hiatt and he is very well qualified to maintain that web site. Steve has Mills County roots through his father, his grandparents and great grandparents. We hope we will be putting new information on the site in the near future. Steve and I are both more knowledgeable about Ohio Township than any of the other areas of Madison County but I am getting better acquainted as I type Madison History about early settlers, military units and early marriages which will soon be available to all of you. Hope you will all be patient while we get this county up and running again. If any of you have searchable information in your possession you might want to volunteer to be a lookup person. Also if you have suggestions about how we can improve our web site or what kinds of information you think would be a good addition please let me know. Cay Merryman caym@infowest.com
Wow, Cay, It's encouraging to know that soon the Madison County page will be as great as the Mills County page. Sharon Laizure Hofer
Looking for full death dates and locations for Mottoville Sylvester Bosley (b. 1855 in Iowa, son of Jacob Bosley and Mary Miller Smith) and his wife Clara Virginia Knox (b. 1862.) This family is in the 1900 Madison Co, Iowa census with children: Daisy, Jose, Edna, Marjorie, Howard, and Homer Bosley, all born between 1885 and 1898. Some of these children died in Polk Co., Iowa. Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
A Christmas Incident 'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the charts The lines that were empty would sure break your heart. The pedigree chart was laid out with care, In hopes that St Nicholas would know who or where. As searcher I nestled all snug in my bed While visions of ancestors danced through my head. Others sound asleep both upstairs and down All in a nightcap and ankle length gown. when out on the lawn there arose such a clatter, I jumped from my bed to see what was the matter. When much to my wonderment there did appear Good old St Nicholas with a grin to each ear. His bulk was tremendous, his eyes full of glee He laughed as he picked up the sad pedigree. He shouted and roared and ripped it to bits While I swallowed my heart and went into fits. "Dash it all, dash it all," I heard him then say, "This clutter and mess is just in my way." He said not a word as he started his job He sat down at once and his pencil did jog. A new pedigree he filled out in two winks Giving names, dates, and places and all missing links. Clear back to Adam, and down to the last... For ageless was he, having served in the past. I thought, "Oh, how wonderful it would all be If he did for others what he did for me!!: As he finished and blotted the ink not quite dry A sadness came over me and then I did cry! He gave me the details and seemed to have such fun But now all my ancestor chasing was done!!! He bounced out the window and I heard him say, "For others I'll do the same any old day, Just tell them my number and be good and kind," But then, a sure thought came into my mind... Nobody wants ancestors that fast and so good I'll let everyone else do the job just as they should. (by Dora Mills - Ash Tree Echo Jan 1983)

Hello Madison County researchers. Just want to let people know that I have copies of burials in the pioneer cemetery known as Hickman Cemetery and also a list for Moon Cemetery. Both cemeteries are south of Macksburg in Grand River Township, Madison County. I will be happy to do look ups for these cemteries if anyone needs me to. There are also cemeteries known as West Branch and Kevitt in the township, but I do not have the lists for them. Regards, Doug in St. Paul

Although I am listed as the Madison County Assistant Coordinator I do not know coding or how to add things to the page. I am strictly a researcher. Ever since Terasa departed as the County Coordinator the county has been floundering because there is no one to handle the things that should be done. I have some things ready to put on line (not cemeteries however) but will have to wait until someone steps forward who is interested in Madison County and can do web pages. I know the IAGenWeb organization has been looking for the right person but no luck as yet. If you know someone who can do web pages and is willing to do some work, please let us know. Please be patient. Cay Merryman caym@infowest.com
Glenn: I wasn't complaining, just letting others know that there are more than just the cemtaries listed. If I was closer to Iowa and had good vision, I would be glad to volunteer myself.
