    3. Hmmmm. You might want to check British Military Records for Richard Howard. If the story is accurate they probably have a record of it! Good hunting! 3. Dear Listers, Please, if you have obituaries concerning Madison County put them on the Madison County GenConnect board for obits. Those are searched by people all over the country when they type in the surname they are interested in. If we want to build up our Madison County web site we need the information there. I believe the county web site is the first place a newbie goes to for information. It takes a long time for them to learn how to do the hundreds of other things that are available to us for research. The mailing list is a great place to put news items also. Another mailing list that I manage has old newspaper articles almost every week and they are very popular. The articles then go to the Archives so they can always be retrieved by anyone interested. Cay Merryman Judy Wight Branson writes: > http://freepages.history.rootsweb.com/~newspapr/ > Go to the state that you want to search and then to the county. I have been submitting news articles for Madison County (in between everything else) and would encourage anyone who has an obit, or any intersting article from Madison County to submitt it to the site.

    2. Dear Evelyn, I feel the same frustration. I have learned that there were a lot of Howards in MA! Orma Howard, who was a school teacher in St. Charles, IA told my mother back in the 1970's that we are descended from a Richard Howard. I can't find any trace of a "Richard." The other story is that Richard came over to fight for the British, hid in a cornfield, and then joined the American side. My Mom's not sure when this happened. If Richard is George's father, then the War of 1812 would be most logical. It could have been the Revolutionary War if it was a grandfather. As you can see, I too am grasping at straws. The Howard line also appears to be pretty fertile which adds to the fun. Thanks for taking the time to answer my e-mail. Happy Hunting. Pam

    2. Hi Pam! No I don't know yet where Thomas Howard was born in Massachusetts. He was born about March 4, 1791 and he might be a brother or a cousin of your George Johnston Howard. I only know that Thomas came from Mass. So I am searching for anything I can find. Into family, Evelyn (Howard) Ferguson

    1. Re: [IAMADISO] WIGHT and HOWARD
    2. Good morning SWR! Thank you for your note on Harriet Howard Wight. I did have that she married James Wight in my notes. I had nothing further on her. If you could supply more on her family descendants I would appreciate it. I have much more on the Howards since I am one. Here are Thomas and Philinda Howard's children: Dexter b: May 1, 1822 Chautauqua County, New York Lyman b: 1826 same place Horace b: 1830 same place Alonzo b: 1831 same place Albert b: 1836 same place Luman b: 1836 same place Harriet I have met cousins on the Horace and Albert lines so far and have their information. Dexter is my line. I am still looking for information on Luman and Lyman's lines. Dexter and Elizabeth (Moore) Howard's children were: Tempest Luella b: Nov 4, 1854 David A. b: November 4, 1856 Ruthanna b: December 16, 1858 Lactisha T. b: January 18, 1861 Denton Henderson b: December 29, 1862 Madison County, Iowa (my line) Sarrah H. b: October 8, 1865 Richard H. b: April 8, 1868 Eunice Olive b: February 18, 1870 Martha Jane b: May 14, 1872 William B. b: October 27, 1874 Winterset, Iowa had a Susquicentennial celebration this past July. They made a booklet of the first settlers of Winterset. One of the Howard/MOore cousins sent me one. The historical society can probably furnish you one if you don't already have one. It is called "Through the Seasons----Winterset, Iowa 1849-1999". It has alot about the Howards and Moores and Binns in it. Denton Henderson Howard married Melissa Jane Cornman Their children: Lark Lyle Howard b: December 27, 1885 Greenfield, Adair, Iowa Ray Lafayette Howard b: October 11, 1887 Greenfield (my Line) Guy Howard b: January 28, 1889 Halfa, Iowa Innah Fae Howard b: April 3, 1892 Greenfield Ethel Mae Howard b: August 22, 1893 Greenfield Denton Henderson Howard, Jr. b: February 17, 1896 Greenfield The rest are still living so I won't go any further. But this should give you a good start on the Howard side. If you need any of the other ancestors children please let me know. I do not have much on the Fergusons because I am now divorced but have a little, all in WAshington STate. Inton family, Evelyn (Howard) Ferguson

    2. Thurman/Therman? My husband has a g grandmother whose maiden name was Therman. We have almost no information about this lady. Do you extensive files? Therese [Thursy] Ann Therman b ca 1823 Ohio?, married Bartlett Miner 3 November 1843, Buchanan Co, Missouri, with the consent of Charles Therman Esqr., father. Bartlett Minor died in 1850 and Thursy married again to George Morrison on January 8, 1854, Buchanan Co, Missouri. There were both Miner children and Morrison children. 3. Mary Ann, Thanks much. In between this I am transcribing the marriages from 1880 - 1900 to post on the M/C website. They should be done in a couple of weeks. I take a break from the cemeteries once in a while and do the marriages. They are a lot less time consuming and I don't have to check and recheck so much. Look for the marriages in about two weeks. 2. Hi, I am interested on your Thomas Howard from MA. I have a George Johnston HOWARD who was born in Lowell, Middlesex, MA in 1819. He married Polly Wells in 1843 and they moved to the Chautauqua Co., NY area. His daughter Charlotte Anne married into my dad's line, Septimus Alexander LYON. The George HOWARD family and the LYON family moved to St. Charles during the 1870's. I'm wondering if you know where in MA your Thomas HOWARD lived? I know nothing about the HOWARD line prior to George. I don't know any of George's brothers and sisters. I do know his mother's name was Anna. I suspect that she married after George's fathers because her last name in the census is BOWERS. If you can make any connections to my line, let me know. Happy Hunting. Pam pmiller288@aol.com
