Hi Madison County Researchers, The Fairview and the Union Chapel Cemeteries are now online to search, at: http://www.interment.net/ If you find an omissions or errors, please let me know. The Peru Cemetery will be ready to be posted in about a week. Thank you, Judy jlwight@northlink.com

Hi Martha, Thanks a lot for the corrections and any further ones that you may find. The records are so hard to read and in many cases, the records don't match each other, so I rely on researchers like you to correct any errors. I will correct my copy of the cemetery records and the update will appear on the website in the future. I can't as the webmaster to update each correction as they come in, but he will update the cemeteries at intervals for me. Oh, by the way...........I think that we are related through the Drakes! We are just heading out the door to dinner, so I will get back to you privately, later on tonight. Judy jlwight@northlink.com Prescott, Arizona
Yes, Judy, we all do very much appreciate your hard work!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! You made me very happy the other day when I found you had the Earlham cemetary on line. Oh my---there was my grandmother--Maude (Hays) Drake (spelled wrong, though--it is Hays--it is listed as Hayes) and then--I was even further pleased when I found my Great Grandmother Drake (Martha J (Johnson) Drake) and my Great Grandfather Drake (John D. Drake). By the way, Maude Drake died in Bolivar (where I was born) of a blood clot from a goiter surgery, and was returned o Earlham vor burial. I was only four, but remember her slightly. The two children listed were sons of Maudes brother Claude. One is a twin ,Gary Landing, born and died on Sept 7, 1941--the twin, by the way, was Larry Manning Drake b Spt. 7, 1941 who continued to live--according to my records. The other child in the cemetary, Joan Drake, I actually have listed as Marilyn Joan Drake--and only have birth at "abt 1936". No date of death and no spouse are listed---so I am pretty certain that it is the same person. I may have it somewhere else also. I will let you know if my find anything further on this. Incidentally, Claude had 15 children, according to what I have, including the two at the cemetary. Maude had my mother Bernice Louise (Hays) Winn with four children, Bruce Arden, Mary Louise, George Frederick, and myself, Martha Helen. (then she remearried Roger Williams and adopted three more children later). Maude `s only other child was Fred Hays and he had one child, Marcella, who died young in a car accident, but she did have two children. I include this information because someone around where my mother and her family lived may be interested. I would like to contact some of Claude`s children or grandchildren--but have not had time to pursue it much just yet. I wonder if perhaps some may show up there at the Earlham cemetary--or one of the others--I have not researched that yet. Thank you again--it was really "made my day" to find my grandmother and my great grandparents. We hope to someday make it back there to visit their final resting places. Martha (Winn/Hays) Maxwell
Hi Madison County Researchers, The Penn Center Cemetery is now posted on the Internment website, http://www.interment.net/ The Fairview Cemetery will be posted in about a week. Thank you, Judy
Thank you Judy for your perciverance! We all appreciate your hard work. I know how it is when you are trying to do your own work in between helping everyone else too. I haven't gotten much of my own stuff done lately. For Christmas and a family reunion coming up this summer, I have been spending all of my time getting the family records put together for relatives. I am really anxious to receive what you have sent on your Wight family. It's a great feeling to find more of the family that you can actually talk to. I am not sure why all of the Howard family was not buried with the elder Howards in Hooten cemetery but I am excited that you are planning on getting that one online. I will be patient. I know you have a life too. Into family, Evelyn (Howard) Ferguson
Hi Evelyn, I took the envelope to the P.O. today, so you should receive it by the end of the week. I am in the process of transcribing the Hooten Cemetery now. It will take a few more weeks as I am trying to fit it in between finishing the 1880 - 1900 marriage records to post, doing look-ups and in between that, some of my own research. I will have it ready as soon as possible. It is a difficult one as it is very hard to read, so I am having to verify names and dates other places to try and make sure they are correct. Talk to you soon, Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: <SNewton284@aol.com> To: <IAMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, January 23, 2000 1:42 PM Subject: Re: [IAMADISO] Madison County Cemeteries > Out of curiousity, I need to ask you, Judy, if the Hooten Cemetery will be > coming online soon? > (Thank you for going to the trouble of putting your Wight history in the > snail mail to me.) > Into family, > Evelyn (Howard) Ferguson >
Judy: I don't know if you have plans yet immediately to do the St. Charles Cemetery. Many of my ancestors are interred in St. Charles. There is a lady I know that wrote the names of the gravestones and put it in a book a while back. I want to update this information from her book and put it on the web along with the other cemetaries of Madison County. Would you like me to assist you in getting St. Charles Cemetery online soon? Will this help lessen your workload? I live in KC area and often go up to see Dad in St. Charles. Peter J. Armstrong DeafNSmart@AOL.COM
Out of curiousity, I need to ask you, Judy, if the Hooten Cemetery will be coming online soon? (Thank you for going to the trouble of putting your Wight history in the snail mail to me.) Into family, Evelyn (Howard) Ferguson
Hi Carlene, I don't find a Stuart Cemetery in Madison County. Is it in Adair or Dallas County? If so, I have no plans at the present time to do other counties. It will probably take me the rest of the year to do the Madison County cemeteries. After I transcribe all that I can find on Madison County I may expand to other counties. I am presently transcribing the 1880 - 1900 marriages for Madison County, in-between doing cemeteries. Let me know about the Stuart Cemetery. What county is it in? Hi Madison County Researchers, The "Kivett Cemetery" and the "Old Penn Cemetery" are now on line to search, at: http://www.interment.net/ The next one will be the Penn Center Cemetery, which will be ready in a few days. Thank you, Judy
I should have added to the letter below that the web site I referred to does not give the complete list of questions asked on the various censuses. There were many questions asked which, in my opinion, do not have much bearing on genealogical research. If anyone really wants to know ALL the questions, contact me again. I can't give you the answers to all the Iowa State Census questions but I can give you most of the years. State wide censuses were for 1856, 1885, 1895, 1905, 1915 and 1925. These are all available through a FHC. There were some earlier census records but I don't think anything state wide. I have already transcribed the 1856 Mills County Census and am now starting the 1856 Madison. If you will click on the following URL there is an explanation for several of these census records and the questions they ask. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iamills/Census/censusndx.htm Cay Merryman M J Moser wrote: > > What information was asked for in the the state censuses from 1845 to > 1900? What information was asked for in the the state censuses from 1845 to 1900? How often and in what years ere they done? Same questions for the County Census. In a nutshell, what can I learn about my ancestors? Thank you Marilyn CT
Pam, Eleven, and others trying to make contact with you New England Ancestors, Root Web has another list the CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L. This is a list that was started last summer. During the past month that I have been a member of this list, I have seen information being posted on several of the surnames, including Howard, Wright and Wight, that people on this list are researching. Members on this list live in many parts of the country, from Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire all the way to the west coast. I live in central Connecticut, a few miles from the Connecticut River. This is a very active list. There have been many postings of information taken from local histories and genealogies published in the late 1800's and early 1900"s. Most of this information has been forwarded to the list by Cynthia, the list administrator. Others have been doing the transcribing and sending the material to her. I suggest that you search the threaded archives for this list. By using the threaded archives you can search by thread or chronological posting. It will take you time to go through the material. There are many postings for each book. There are also members who have been doing genealogy for many years. They have traced their families all the way across the country. Be prepared; as you connect with your family members, you will probably be connecting with several other early New England families. Happy hunting, Marilyn P.S. Last night I found some information on Frank E. Howe living in Wood River, Nebraska in 1873 while reading a biography about one of his brothers who remained in New England. Anyone looking for the information.
