    3. Hi Martha, Sorry, but I don't have a fax machine yet. I am having an "office" built this spring and will get one when the room is completed and I have a place for one. Why don't you start a list of your question and save them to disc until you feel that you have most of them logged and then send that to me as an attachment and I will get to them one at a time as quickly as I can...........or you can just send them as you think of them and I will look for the answers as quickly as I can and get back to you. It really doesn't matter to me how you send them to me, with each one, I will do it as soon as possible...........I'm easy.......just a bit busy at times........<g> Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: <roots2us@webtv.net> To: <IAMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, February 07, 2000 9:58 AM Subject: Re: [IAMADISO] Andrew JOHNSON Family > Judy, do you have a fax? 3. Clarence, This site may help you in your Iowa searches: http://www.iowa-counties.com/gene/index.shtml When you go to the site, look for the Iowa Genealogical Society link. They may be able to assist you with the burial indices you seek. Good hunting! Doug in MN Clarence Lott wrote: > > Martha and Judy: > > 1. I believe that Andrew JOHNSON was aka Andrew S. 1. Re: [IAMADISO] Andrew JOHNSON Family
    2. Clarence Lott
    3. Judy: Sounds like you have some really spastic records there in trying to sort out all of the Madison Co., IA, burials. I posted some of the names of interest in an earlier e-mail today which constitute the children of Andrew (S) JOHNSON. One of his descendants who appears in the Census records was his grandson Moscow JOHNSON. I don't know which son of Andrew's is his father. The first name of Moscow is pretty unique. There is no real rush on the lookups as I can imagine that you are as busy as everyone else. To have those records available on the internet is going to be great for everyone researching that part of the State. I know that such records which are being posted on the Ontario Co., NY, website are quite valuable for the LOTT line I am chasing. Thanking you in advance for any information you might happen upon. 1. Re: [IAMADISO] Andrew JOHNSON Family
    2. Judy Wight Branson
    3. Hi Clarence & Martha, I have copies of both burial indexes for Madison County plus death records from when they began in mid-1880 through 1908, however..............everything doesn't match. For instance, both indexes have lots of the same people and lots of different people, the death records list that people are buried (i.e.) in Earlham Cemetery, yet they are not listed in the Earlham Cemetery records, or the person who died is listed as "died in Madison County" or even worse, that space is blank and that person is "not" listed as buried in any cemetery in Madison County, etc., etc., etc. I am in the process of transcribing cemetery records for Madison County and posting them on the Cemetery Interment website which is linked to the Madison County website. I have done around 20 cemeteries so far and have the Peru Cemetery almost done. When I am through with all of the cemeteries, I am going to make a "master list" and have it posted on the Madison County website. That will be around the last part of this year I am guessing at this time. This list will include ALL of the burials that are listed in each cemetery AND a list of those who have not been listed as buried in any cemetery AND those who died in Madison County and are buried elsewhere. That is my goal, by the end of this year to have it all done......so we'll see how things go. Who would you like me to search for? Just let me know and I will do my best to find the person. Until next time, Judy jlwight@northlink.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Clarence Lott <volcano33@juno.com> To: <IAMADISO-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 05, 2000 6:37 PM Subject: Re: [IAMADISO] Andrew JOHNSON Family > Martha and Judy: > > 1. 3. Martha and Judy: 1. I believe that Andrew JOHNSON was aka Andrew S. JOHNSON. 2. As for whether or not the Martha you spoke of is a daughter of Andrew, I cannot be sure at this point. It is possible that she could have been born in 1858 as the last birth date I have on any of the children is 1853 (James). Do you know when she died??? Have you by chance checked out the microfilm for papers which might have carried her obituary. It might add additional information to what little we all know at this point in time. If it is the right woman, then I can tell you that she was married to a MARTIN, probably before they arrived in Iowa from Indiana. 3. Does anyone know if there exists either burial indices for the various cemeteries in IA and if so, where might one locate those indices. Looking to hear from either of you. I was wondering if perhaps my great grandmother, Martha (Johnson) Drake buried in the Earlham cemetary could be the child named Martha that you have listed for Andrew Johnson. I have she was born in 1858 and she married John Dickerson Drake in March, 1878 in Iowa. I do not have her parents (although I have not checked all my files as yet). Also, Judy, I may have given you some bad information on Claude. It appears he was not the brother of Maude but a nephew, I guess. Simon Mortie Drake was the brother of Maude. His son was Claude. 3. Cay: No, Cay, I don't believe I have the bio that you are referring to in your e-mail. I have read the material on Webster Twp, Madison Co., IA, which appeared in the two volume set of History of Madison Co., IA. I don't have my reference details handy at the moment. I would also be curious to learn if any of the JOHNSON descendants are still located in Maidson county. Andrew JOHNSON had the following children: William Arista JOHNSON, Louisa JOHNSON; George Andrew JOHNSON; James M. JOHNSON; Martha JOHNSON; Margaret JOHNSON; and Zachariah JOHNSON. I hear that Iowa is attempting to close their public records??? Is that true??? 3. Hi Diana, Well, it could be me that is confused. What I mean is, since I have never been to Madison County, Iowa, I am going by records only and this is what I make out of the records, many of which are very, very hard to read. There are two Union Chapel Cemeteries in Madison County, one in Jefferson Township, St. Charles and one in South Township, St. Charles. If I am wrong about this, could someone please let me know and what the correct names for this cemeteries and the correct townships.
