I am researching the descendants of Rudolph Slezak (b: June 15, 1829 in Bohemia d: June 26, 1886 Prescott, IA) and Josephine Motaf (b: 1828 in Bohemia m:? d: 1911 in Iowa). They had 7 children; I am descended from his first born, Thomas (b: January 17, 1848 in Bohemia d: February 14, 1904 in Prescott, IA) who married Barbara Zajicha (or Zajicek). She was b: August 16, 1850 Bohemia, m: 1871 in Richmond, IA. and: March 18, 1923 Kolin, LA. I have plenty of information on all the children, grandchildren, etc. But my two brick walls are: 1) any information on Barbara Zajicek or her relations and 2) information on the Slezak family's move to the US from Bohemia c. 1863. Following the death of her husband, Barbara moved to Colin, LA with her youngest son. She remained there until she died March 18,1923. She is buried in the Bohemian National Cemetery.
My Madison County roots are in Grand River Township. My ancestors arrived in the township between the years of 1850 and 1890. I don't have any road blocks but am willing to help with the my listed surnames or with general information about Grand River Township / Macksburg. Doug McKee Saint Paul, Minnesota
My ancestor, Joel Berry, came to Madison County 1854 from Marion County, Ind. His brother William had arrived in 1850. Ellen Clark was Joel's wife, she died about 1865. Other family members who arrived were Joel's children and his nephew, John Berry. Would like to correspond with any descendants other than George Berry and Larry Eldridge whom I've already met. I'm interested in information about how the families lived in Madison County in the era of 1850-1900. Their lifestyles are interesting to me. My families there are the LAIZUREs (James T. and his brother William H. Laizure); RUTHs, and LOWEs. William H. Laizure (1829-1893)married Nancy LOWE in 1868 and lived in Madison Co. Their children married into the Ruth family. Nancy, Wm, and several of their descendants are buried in the McDonald-Chase Cemetery outside of Winterset. I'd like to know anything about Nancy. Did any other LOWEs live in the area? Nancy lived on into the 1920s. James T. LAIZURE moved to KS about 1874. He left behind a son named James J. Laizure who died about 1872. He was about 10 years old. Has anyone ever seen a tombstone for a LAIZURE youth from the 1870s? James T.'s daughter, Rachel Ann, married a LAW. Possibly John Laizure could be interred in a cemetery where the Laws are laid to rest. Thanks, Sharon Laizure Hofer
I am looking for the cemetery in which my gggrand parents are buried. They had a son named Samuel and his wife was Margaret Gray Smith. They were married in 1849 in Columbus, Ohio. In 1850 they were living in Brown Township in Franklin County, Ohio. Their first child was born after the 1850 census was made. They were living in Riceland Township, Keokuk County , Iowa. His parents were John and Rebecca Beall Smith they had also lived in Ohio prior to coming to Clear Creek Township, Keokuk County, Iowa according to the 1860 census. In 1864, Samuel and family moved to Winterset, Iowa. They were living there in 1870 according to the 1870 census. Samuel was listed as a house mover. Living in his home were his parents, John and Rebecca. My grandmother was born Nov 8, 1866 in Winterset. Her obituary states that she moved to Kansas when she was 6 years old. Or about the year of 1872-3. Her grand parents did not come to Kansas to the best of our knowledge. In the 1870 census Rebecca is listed as 72 (we have had her born in 1798 for some time previous). John was age 73 in that census. So they both could have been dead by the time Samuel moved to Kansas. Does any one know if they are buried in one of the cemeteries near Winterset?

I have all their children and downstream data, but cannot find where either came from. I believe he was born in Ky. according to Madison Co., records, but I have no proof. There is a site with some of the cemeteries and who is buried there. But it's not all of the cemeteries. It does include Blair and Union, I believe. Anyone near Blair Chapel or know anything about United Brethren in Christ Church have access to the church records or history? Cynthia Hughart
