The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, July 8, 1909 A most worthy enterprise was launched in Chariton on last Monday evening when a number of the ladies met to confer with the city council as to the advisability of reorganizing the Chariton Improvement Association, and receiving the assurance of hearty co-operation from the mayor and members, which should extend as well to all public spirited citizens. The presidents and secretaries of the various clubs of Chariton met at the home of MRS. W.A. EIKENBERRY, on Tuesday, for the purpose of reorganizing the Association, the motion carrying to that effect. The officers elected were: President, MRS. LOU BEAMAN; 1st Vice President, MRS. NINA LARIMER; 2nd Vice President, MRS. MARCIA EIKENBERRY; 3rd Vice President, MRS. LUCY ISRAEL Secretary, MRS. EFFA BROWN; Treasurer, MISS ELOISE COPELAND. The former constitution was adopted with slight amendments to meet present conditions. After adjournment the general officers named four directors from each of the city wards and these general officers and directors will constitute the Executive Board. The Executive Board met yesterday to formulate plans to carry on the work and as the organization now exists under the amended constitution it is a woman's organization. The standing committees are to consist of three ladies each and are as follows: Public Health; Public Square; Park and Depot Grounds; Streets and Alleys; Municipal; Membership; Entertainments; Rest Room. The next regular meeting of the Association will be held on the first Thursday in August. Let the good work go on and the Leader congratulates the ladies in the enterprise shown and bespeaks a successful campaign for municipal progress. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert August 29, 2005 iggy29@rnetinc.net 'A Closed Mouth Gathers No Foot'.
