The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 28, 1906 SOCIETY EVENTS: MISS ROSS DRAKE entertained Friday evening in honor of her cousin. MR. and MRS. WILL PENICK entertained Friday evening. Last Friday ten of Chariton's sweet lassies betook themselves to the woods for a picnic. Following are the names of the merry girls: MISSES DALE SEWARD, RUTH LEONARD, HAZEL LARIMER, WILLA BOND, OMA SNEDAKER, CATHARINE COLLINS, MERL SWIFT, OLIVE FAIN AND OLIVE CONNELL. The Z E X Club had a merry picnic at north park Monday evening. MISS HATTIE PRESS and her cousin, MISS ANNA GOTTSTEIN, of Des Moines, who was visiting her, were very pleasantly surprised Friday evening by a number of girl friends. The evening was spent in playing games and in other social amusements. Dainty refreshments consisting of ice cream and wafers were served. A merry crowd of young ladies and gentlemen from Chariton and Russell, formed a picnic party at Slab Castle, Wednesday. They were chaperoned by MRS. W.M. HOUSEHOLDER and MRS. N.S. MELVILLE. They took with them plenty of good things to eat and did not return until they had enjoyed a moonlight picnic. MISS JESSIE MCINTIRE gave a musical recital at her home Tuesday evening. REV. W.S. MCCULLAGH and his Sunday School Class of boys went Tuesday for a few days' fishing and hunting party, near Wheeler Bridge. The boys who went were GEORGE YOCOM, ORAN WELLS, VERAN WELLS, NEIL LARIMER, RAY RETHERFORD, J.D.
