The Chariton Leader, Chariton, Iowa Thursday, July 15, 1909 After many months of suffering, JOHN RUSSELL, of Russell, father of ALBERT RUSSELL, of this city, died yesterday morning. He had been afflicted with dropsical trouble for more than a year. MR. RUSSELL was one of the first settlers of Washington Township and was a man of sterling qualities, ever meeting well the obligations of life in all the varied departments. Funeral is being held today. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OBITUARY -- JOHN RUSSELL JOHN RUSSELL was born in Noble County, Ohio, January 10, 1832, and departed this life July 14th, 1909, aged 77 years, 6 months and 4 days. His death came as a release from the intense suffering of the past days. For the past two years his illness has caused him many days of pain and suffering, but he bore it patiently. He resided in Noble County, Ohio, until 22 years of age when he came with his parents to Lucas County, Iowa, where his residence has been since that time. He was married in 1857 to MARGARET GOOKIN, who survives him with a son, ALBERT E. RUSSELL, of Chariton; a daughter, CORNELIUS C. RUSSELL, of Russell, and a sister, MRS. A. LAFOLLETTE, of Russell. The funeral services were held at the home Thursday, July 15th, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. S.J. Shenton. His remains were placed in the Salem Cemetery beside those of their son, ALEXANDER, who died in infancy.
