Abbott of Fairfield, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Mercy Hospital in lowa City. The funeral was held on Saturday at the First United Methodist Churcch in Fairfield with the Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to to First United Methodist Church or Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. He was born September 8, 1911, in Conesville, the son of Arthur and Eva Chapman Abbott He married Cecile Lorene Ross on September 29, 1933, in Winfield. She died August 5, 1998. His family settled in the Winfield area, where he attended school. He graduated in 1930. He later attended Des Moines Barber School and apprenticed in Montrose. He then returned to Winfield, where he set up his own barber shop. He served in the U.S. Navy, stationed in Farragut, Idaho, from 1942 until the end of World War II in 1945. Upon his return, the family settled in Fairfield. He operated the Abbott's Deluxe Barber Shop until he retired in 1992. In the back of the barber shop, his wife operated the Abbott Hobbycraft Shop for 27 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and taught adult men's Sunday school classes for many years. He was a 50-year member of the American Legion and a member of the Howard Johnson Coffee Club. Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Sandburg and her husband, David of Cedar Rapids and Connie Robertson and her husband, Larry of Columbus Junction; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren,
