Martha Louisa “Martie” Minnis, 80, Morning Sun, died Thursday, December 12, 2002 at Great River Medical Center. The daughter of Percy W. and Etta L. Cronister Wells, she was born November 17, 1922 at Mount Pleasant. On July 4, 1941 she married W.L. “Bill” Minnis at Memphis, Mo.; he died September 25, 1994. Martie was a graduate of the Burlington High School. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crafts and decorating. She enjoyed golf and was a member of the Indian Hills Golf and Country Club. Survivors include three sons, Larry and Mark Minnis, both of Morning Sun and Mike Minnis of Madison, Wis.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Springsteen of Morning Sun and Sue Brown of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, infant John, Wendell and Earl. The funeral service for Martie Minnis was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Morning Sun with the Rev. Chris Thomas officiating. Music was provided by Geneva Samuels, organist. Pallbearers were Landon Minnis, Bret Minnis, Ryan Minnis, Robert Gabeline, Ed Warth and Jim Johnson. Interment followed at the Elmwood Cemetery. The family met with friends Sunday afternoon at the funeral home. A general memorial has been established in her name.
