"Kelly" Zuniga Jr., 64, of Conesville, died peacefully Saturday, December 29, 2007, at his residence after a long courageous battle with cancer. Visitation was from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at Grace United Church of Christ. A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Church of Christ. The Rev. Rick Crooks officiated. Burial was in the Conesville Cemetery. Following the services a time of food and fellowship was held at the Conesville Community Center. A memorial was established at the funeral home in Kelly's name. Arrangements were by the Stacy-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction. Kelly was born December 21, 1943, in Del Rio, Texas, the son of Prajedis G. Zuniga Sr. and Maria de la luz Gonzales. On May 20 2, 1966, Kelly was united in marriage to Rachel Dominguez. He was a lifelong resident of Conesville. He worked for the Rath Packing Plant for many years. He then worked at Oral-B in Iowa City, until his retirement. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for several years in Conesville. Kelly had a great sense of family, his children and grandchildren always came first. He enjoyed raising chickens, watching NASCAR, spending time with his grandchildren and having coffee with the neighbor. Kelly will be dearly missed by his wife, Rachel of Conesville; four sons, Kelly Zuniga III and special friend Lisa Garrison of Conesville, Eddie Zuniga and his wife Denise of Iowa City, Telly Zuniga and his wife Carol of Columbus Junction and Dan Zuniga of Columbus Junction; one step-brother, Tony Gonzalez and his wife Robyn of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Tony, Ceci, Bailee, Rylee, Viri, Dante and Gabriel; seven brothers and sisters-in-law; and special nieces and nephews, Anita Valenzuela, Joe Salas, Rosie Watkins, Dora Roush and Janie Holmes. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law and siblings, Angelica Zamote, Aurelia Dill, Lupe Torres, Maria Salas, Jose Zuniga, Gertrudis Zuniga and Encarnacion Zuniga.
