Stroup was the son of Jacob and Emma Rogers Stroup, and was born at Fort Madison on April 8, 1889. In October 1913, he was married to Ruth Caparoon, who died January 5, 1950. Surviving are four sons and three daughters: Robert Stroup, Birmingham, Alabama; Jacob Stroup, USA, stationed in Germany; William Stroup, Morning Sun; Earl Stroup and Mrs. Lucy Westfall, both of Burlington; Mrs. Dorothy Devore, Wapello, and Mrs. Loretta Raptis of Detroit. The body is at the Pierce funeral home, where last rites will be held at 2 p.m. Monday. Dr. Will M. Hughes, pastor of United Presbyterian Church, will officiate, and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
