Maurice Schmeiser, age 88, of Wapello, Iowa, died Friday morning, February 15, 2008. The son of Emanuel and Christena Matilda Wehmeyer Schmeiser, he was born November 13, 1919 at Wapello. He married Maurine Jarvis on September 30, 1945 at Morning Sun, Iowa. Maurice graduated from Wapello High School in 1938. He attended Iowa State University. He was a farmer on the family farm near Wapello. He loved farming, traveling, and meeting people. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the I.O.O.F. Lodge both of Wapello. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club at Wapello. He had served on the Drainage Board for 25 or more years. He served on the Southeast Iowa Council Executive Board of Boy Scouts for many years having received the Silver Beaver Award. He is survived by his wife, Maurine; three sons, Bruce & Donna Schmeiser of West Lafayette, Indiana, Russ & Cyndie Schmeiser of Iowa City, and Craig & Nancy Schmeiser of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Agnes Berkey, Mabel Barnes, Mary Smith, and Josephine Walker; and his brother, Martin Schmeiser. The funeral ceremony for Maurice Schmeiser will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 25, 2008,(newspapers & radios -- please note this date) at the United Methodist Church at Wapello, with Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman officiating. Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery. Friends may call from noon to 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 24, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello. The family will meet friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Monday before the funeral at the United Methodist Church.
