Skipto DATE: 3/5/2009 at 21:08:19 Surnames: MCCARTNEY,PETERS,MILLER,SHIPMAN,TORBERT,GARDEN Wapello Republican, Thursday, May 6, 1954, Anne Izora McCartney was born June 10, 1878 in Wapello Township, Louisa County, Iowa, and died at St. Anthony Hospital in O'Neil, Neb. May 2, 1954. Her parents were Christian and Ella Jane Peters Weber. She attended school in Wapello and at the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, also at Tempe, Ariz., where she received her degree. She taught in the public schools in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota and Nebraska for 25 years, and served as county superintendent of schools in Boyd County, Neb. for 12 years. She became a member of the Christian Church at Wapello when quite young. She was a member of Circle No 3 of the Guild of the Presbyterian Church at O'Neil. On January 1, 1920, she was married to Wm. McCartney, at the home of her parents in Wapello. He preceded her in death. She was a member of Symphony Chapter No. 316, order of Eastern Star, and served in many offices through Worthy Grand Matren. She moved to O'Neil in 1937 as operator of the McCartney Style Shop, selling out her business on February 13 of this year. Surviving are: sisters and brothers; Mrs. Effie Miller, of Maryville, Mo.; Mrs. Saidee Shipman, and George W. Weber, of Columbus Junction, Benjamin Weber, of Dallas, Ore. Mrs. Lena Torbert of Leesburg, Fla, and Mrs. Grace Garden, of Des Moines. She is also survived by a number of neices and nephews. After a short funeral service at the funeral chapel in O'Neil, the body was brought to Wapello where services were held Thursday, May 5 at the Dudgeon Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Floyd Shepherd. Internment was in the family lot at Wapello.
