Baars, 67, Grandview, died early Friday, June 18, 1982, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Services were held Monday, June 21 at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial was in the Grandview Cemetery, where military rites were conducted. The son of Fred C. and Ada Meta Kopf Baars, he was born February 1, 1915, in Muscatine. He had lived most of his life in the surrounding area. His marriage to Hazel Newcomb took place March 24, 1934, in Muscatine. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the VFW. Mr. Baars was a retired farmer and had been employed at GPC for 23 years before retiring in 1978. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Wakefield of Muscatine and Mrs. William (Glenda) Whitlow of Grandview; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, James of Muscatine; and two sisters, Mrs. Lester (Lucille) Adams and Mrs. Jessie (Helen) Blake, both of Muscatine.
