Darrell Eldon 'Bud' Ashby, age 66, of Wapello, died Thursday evening, March 2, 1995 at the Veterans Hospital, Knoxville, Iowa. The son of Fred H. and Marie Hartsock Ashby, he was born September 23, 1928 at Wapello. He married Shirley Ripperton on April 3, 1965 at Kohoka, Missouri. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WW II. He had worked as a pipefitter in commercial building construction, Had owned and operated the B & J Bait Shop in Wapello for nine years, and had also done aerial crop dusting. He was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Glenn Allen Post 5166 of Wapello. Survivors include his wife Shirley; three daughters, Denise Skipton of Wapello, Debbie (Mrs. Glen) Ball of Morning Sun and Darma Moss of Independence, Missouri; three sons, Jeff Ashby of Burlington, Darrell 'Buzzy' Ashby, Jr. of Independence, Missouri, and Brad Ashby of Maquoketa, Ia; a sep-son, Ronald Balsinger of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Elda Harbison, Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim. Funeral services for Darrell 'Bud' Ashby was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 1995 at the Grandview Community Bible Church with the Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating. Burial followed at the Wapello Cemetery with Military rites by the Wapello VFW. Visitation was Sunday at Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello, with the family meeting friends form 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Wapello Community Ambulance Service. Music for the service was provided by Cheri Snyder as organist. The casket bearers included Larry Hartsock, Bill Hartsock, Tony Garrison, Tom Pforts, Glen Ball and Glenn Miller. The honorary bearers were Al Whitaker, Medeline Hess, Carol Hank, Rosemary Larson and Linda Hunt.
