Ayers a well known resident of this community until recent years, died at Portland, Oregon, June 10, 1962. His health had not been good since he suffered a stroke two years ago. Glenn Wyman Ayers, son of Wyman Linden and Eva May Ayers, was born at Columbus Junction. He Attended the local school and also took special work at the State University at Iowa City in music. Always interested in music he taught music in Columbus Junction and also in various southeast Iowa public schools for a period extending over 30 years. He also owned and operated a music store here for a number of years. On October 14, 1915 he was united in marriage to Erma Esther Warner, who preceded him in death in 1957. To them six children were born all of whom survive him. They are Edward D. Ayers of 428 Euclid Street Santa Monica, California; Robert Warner Ayers, 9 Short Street, Union Gap, Washington; Louise Eva Walcott, 437 Windsor Way, Renton, Washington; Catherine L. Hinsz, 302 East North Yakima, Washington; Ruth Ann Bebb, route one, Bagley, Iowa and Erma Jean Turner, 400 Lincoln Street, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. He is also servived by twenty grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was again married June 14, 1958 to Mrs. Mae (Malby) Stowie and moved her to their new home at 16235 Southeast Clinton Street, Portland, Oregon, who also survives him. Mr. Ayers was a member of the Columbus Junction Methodist Church also of Columbus City Lodge No. 107 A.F and A.M.; Royal Arch Mason Chapter No. 44, Gresham, Oregon. Also a Shriner. After moving to Portland he played for a time in the Al Kader Shrine Band. He was also a member of Emma Beckman Chapter 45 Order of Eastern Star of Columbus Junction and a member of the Music Educators National Conference and the Musicians Union. He also played the clarinet in many concerts and for some years directed the Columbus Junction band. Services were held at Portland, Oregon in charge of the Masonic Lodge of that city, Wednesday, June 13th in Gresham, Oregon. The body was then sent to the Stacy Funeral Home in Columbus Junction and is expected to arrive here Saturday. The family will be at the funeral home until noon Sunday when the body will be taken to the Columbus Junction Methodist church where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. conducted by Rev. Robert M. Parris.
