Bailey Rites Mrs. Mabel Elizabeth Bailey, long time resident of Letts, died at 7:40 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 1978, at Valley View Manor, Muscatine, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 9 days. She was born August 4, 1887, in Letts, the daughter of George and Martha Small Wagner. She was a graduate of Cornell College at Mt. Vernon, Iowa. She was married to George W. Bailey on November 11, 1913, in the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. H. N. P. Small, in Letts. Mrs. Bailey was a member of the Letts United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Philathea class, the Birthday and Garden Clubs and the Muscatine Chapter of Gold Star Mothers. She was a past matron and a 50 year member of the Letts Order of Eastern Star Chapter 370. She is survived by four sons, G. Earl, Raymond and Arthur of Letts and Lyman of Terrill; a daughter, Mrs. John (Elna) Lafayette, Riverdale; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her husband; one son, Captain Philip Bailey; one brother, one siter and three grandchildren preceded her in death. Funeral services were held at the Letts United Methodist church at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 15. Rev. Robert Gamble of Letts, Rev. Robert Ahlstrom of Muscatine officiated. Mrs. George Crist was organist. Ushers were Ted Small and Jack Estle. Grandsons served as casket bearers. Burial was in the Letts Cemetery in charge of the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home.
