Skipto DATE: 3/2/2009 at 23:36:33 Surnames: ASHBY,NOBLE,BROWNING,REED,MCCLEARY,SHELLABARGER,ROBERTSON,CLARK,TODD,MCCONNELL Columbus Gazette, March 26, 1966. George Raymond Ashby, 75, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Saturday morning, March 26, 1966 at the Muscatine General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was the son of John and Myrtle Noble Ashby and was born July 19, 1890 at Oakville, Iowa. He was a long time Grandview resident. He was first married to Bertha Browning who passed away in 1937 and later married Orpha Ashby on April 21, 1939. survivors include his wife, Orpha, three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Reed, Muscatine; Mrs. Geneva McCleary, Muscatine; and Mrs. Frieda Shellabarger of Grant, Nebraska. Six half-brothers; Elmer, Harry, Neal, Robert all of Burlington, John of Pilot Grove, Missouri and Roger of Tacoma, Washington. One sister Bertha Robertson of Oakville and three half-sisters; Grace Clark of Arizona, Daisy Todd, Wapello, Iowa and Nellie McConnell of Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home at Wapello with Rev. Walter Vesterfelt officiating. Music was by Mrs. Phyllis McCulley. Flower attendants were Mrs. Helen Hammer and Mrs. Lily Bergen. Casket bearers were Robert Hocke, Walter Hammer, Burl Reed, Glenn Beard, Albert Bergen and William Fulton. Burial was in the Indian Creek Cemetery.
