Skipto DATE: 3/5/2009 at 18:01:20 Surnames: SHIPMAN,WEBER,EDWARDS,COOPER,IVES,CLARK Wapello Republican, Thursday, January 23, 1936. Leonard Joy Shipman son of Oliver E. and Mantle Joy Shipman was born at Wapello, Iowa, September 17, 1876, and died at his home in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, Jan. 17, 1936, aged 59 years and 4 months. His early boyhood was spent in and around Wapello, where he received his education in the public schools, later graduating from Hess Business College at St. Paul, Minnesota. On August 20, 1902, he was united in marriage to Saidee F. Weber, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Weber of Wapello. To this union were born three children: Mrs. Twyla Edwards of McConnelsville, Ohio; Mrs. Miriam Cooper of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; and James at home, all of whom with his sorrowing wife, were at his bedside at the time of his passing, as were also his sister and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ives, of Burlington. He is also survived by his brother, Edgar Shipman of Portland, Oregon and his other sister, Mrs. Gladys Clark, of Oelwein, Iowa. In early manhood he united with the M.E. Church at Wapello and remained a faithful and consistant member until called home. He was always active in church work and accepted cheerfully any responsibility given him, serving a number of years as superintendent of Sunday school and president of the Epworth League here. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. T. Warren in charge. Mrs. Gladys McNeil sang, "Face to Face". The flower girls were Mrs. Ora Deppey, Mrs. Paul Edwards, Mrs. Will Diller and Ruth Weber. The pallbearers were George Deppey, Elmer Shipman, George Wilson, Walter Webster, Fred Cutkomp and A.W. Heins. Burial was in the Wapello Cemetery.
