Juanita Aspelmeier, 76, of Burlington, died at 4:23 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born Oct. 31, 1924, in Louisa County, she was the daughter of John H. and Ethel Hilda Watkins Peck. She married Forrest Eugene Aspelmeier on July 4, 1951, in Davenport; he died Oct. 17, 1991. Mrs. Aspelmeier was a graduate of Mediapolis High School. She worked as an inspector for Sylvania Electric for 17 1/2 years, and also worked at Winegard, E.B. Case Co. and the Basket Factory. She worked at Lehigh Leopold and Joyce Industries for 14 years, retiring March 13, 1987. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Women of the Moose Chapter 587 and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Mercer of Houston, Texas; one grandson; three sisters, Oleta Schaper of Wapello, LaVera Poe of Lenexa, Kan., and Doreen Christman of Bashear, Mo., and one brother, Donald Peck of Oakville. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers. Visitation is Thursday in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends for 7 to 8:30 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Aspelmeier will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the chapel, with the Revs. Richard Purcell and John Hays officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Cemetery, Wapello. A memorial has been established.
