Babbitt, 58, of Norwalk, formerly a resident of Columbus Junction, died Sunday at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday October 13, at the United Methodist church with Rev. Richard Faris officiating. Organist will be Marsha Gerot and vocalist Brad Fulton. Casket bearers are Bill Shields, Ted Thompson, Dennnis McBride, Arthur Whiting, Dick Sprawhacker, Leland Swafford, Ed Milder and Ray Babbitt. Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home. The son of Merrill and Elizabeth Shepherd Babbitt, he was born March 28, 1925, in Afton. His marriage to A. Evonne Ferguson took place July 2, 1953 in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Columbus Junction and the Cotner Masonic Lodge of Lincoln. Mr. Babbitt retired in 1965 from the U.S. Air force after 21 years of service. Survivors include his wife; one son, Mark of Fredonia; two daughters, Mrs. John (Jerri) Loven of Newport, Rhode Island, and Patti at home; one grandchild, Eric Allen, 11; his mother of Denver, Colorado; one brother, William of Lincon, Nebraska; and four sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Virgina) Cottier of Sprinfield, Missouri, Patricia Babbitt of Denver, Colorado, Mrs. Joseph (Barbara) Mullen of Norfolk, Virginia, and Mrs. Kenneth (Nancy) Denbow of Washington, D.C. He was preceded in death by his father and a daughter.
