Funeral services for 70-year-old Leonard Arthur was held on Friday, October 19, 1990, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church of Crawfordsville with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating. Music was by John Claussen. Casket bearers were Jack Quigley, Gary Arthur, Kennith Arthur, Craig Jones, Mike Gardner and Roger Gardner. Burial was in the Cambrian Cemetery. The Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home in Columbus Junction was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Arthur died October 17, 1990, at his home in Iowa City following an extended illness. A memorial has been established for the United Church of Crawfordsville and the Iowa City Hospice and may be left at the funeral home. Leonard Arthur was born on April 22, 1920, at Cotter. He was the son of Evan and Ruth Peters Arthur. He graduated from Cotter High School in 1937.He married Helen McKinney at Wapello on June 12, 1952. Mr. Arthur had worked in construction, as an insurance adjuster and had been a farmer in the area. He was a World War II Veteran serving in Aleutians Islands and Europe. He was a member of the Columbus City Mosonic Lodge #107 A.F. and A.M., the Crawfordsville American Legion, Lions Club, and United Church of Crawfordsville. Arthur is survived by his wife, Helen; one son, John; and one brother, Lyle, all of Iowa City; one daughter, Mrs. Sue Gardner of Marion; and grandchildren Jim, Jill, and Michael Arthur and Sara Gardner; and a sister, Evelyn Gardener of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Gwendolyn Jones and Leona Gardner, and one brother, Lee.
