Skipton, a well known and longtime resident of this community died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 1956 at University Hospital in Iowa City, where he had been a patient less than one week. Harvey Homer Skipton, son of Joseph and Eliza Jane Skipton, was born May 19, 1867 in Washington County, Iowa and aged 89 years, 2 months, and three days. Early in life he came to Louisa County. He was united in marriage to Edith May Boulton, October 25, 1899 and engaged for many years in farming, painting and decorating. He attended the Dixie Free Methodist Church throughout the years. He is survived by his wife and faithful companion and by two sons, Cecil Skipton of Columbus City and Roy Skipton of Chicago and by one daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Orris of Columbus City. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Mary Evaline Pine of Columbus City and by twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews besides a host of more distant relatives and many friends. One son Frank, preceded him in death, also one sister and one brother. Funeral services were held at the Dixie Free Methodist Church at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. Walter Vander Linden. Music was by Mrs. Opal Colton and Rev. Charles Keller. Flower attendants were Mrs. Walter Lucas and Mrs. Edwin Ford. Casket bearer were Clarence Skipton, Ernest Skipton, Harold Skipton, Robert Skipton, Lewis Skipton and Leonard Skipton. Burial in the Columbus City cemetery under the direction of the Stephens Funeral Home.
