Thompson, 81, Death Occurs at Cassopolis, Mich. Last Week (handwritten "Feb 50") Marcellus Thompson, a former resident of the Grandview community, died at midnight last Monday at Cassopolis, Mich. He was 81 years of age. He was born on July 23, 1868 at Grandview, the son of William T. and Jane Jones Thompson and lived there and in Muscatine for a number of years before moving to Dowagiac, Mich., several years ago. He marred Clara D. Stineman at Wapello and the couple engaged in farming in this area for a number of years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. clara Thompson of Muscatine; two sons, Rowdy F. of Muscatine and Harry J. of California; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur Wiest of Davenport and Mrs. A.J. Schumacher of Detroit, Mich.; one brother, Bart of Grandview; one sister, Miss Elma Thompson of Columbus Junction; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His parents, one daughter, Ruth, and several brothers and sisters preceded him in death. The body arrived in Muscatine on Thursday and was taken to the Geo. M. Wittich funeral home where services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday. Burial was in the Grandview cemetery. Source: an old scrapbook
