Ellen Rose Armstrong, age 94, of Morning Sun, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, at her home. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 30, 1998, at the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church, rural Morning Sun, with Pastor Ron Good officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery at Morning Sun. The casket bearers include Douglas Bardolph, Tom Johnson, Ted Johnson, Jon Frischkorn, James Pilling, and Paul McElhinney. Honor bearers are Frank Mauer, Hoyt Cummings, Alvin Lambert and Earl Wilson. Ola Lambert and Ethel Robb are flower attendants. The family met with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home at Morning Sun. The daughter of James Thomas and Minnie Lauretta 'Baird' Carithers, Ellen was born March 2, 1904, on a farm near Morning Sun. She was baptized at the Sharon R.P. Church in April of 1904. She graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1922. She attended Fort Madison Business School and worked at the Des Moines, Iowa Duplicating Works for four years. On May 28, 1927, she married David T. Armstrong at Morning Sun. He preceded her in death on Decdember 3, 1981. She was an active member of the R.P. Women's Missionary Society, Sorosis, Past President of Parley of American Legion Auxilary, Honeycreekers Homemakers Club, and the Farm Bureau. She taught Sabbath School in the Morning Sun R.P. Church for many years. She loved to travel and enjoyed seeing Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and many other states. Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Johnson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a son, Dr. David R. Armstrong of Elmhurst, Illinois; two grandsons, Tom Johnson of Austin, Texas and Ted Johnson of Fort Dodge; a granddaughter, Beth Bardolph of Villa Park, Illinois; and four great-grandchildren, Justin, Aaron, Chelsea, and Ethan Bardolph. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters Mabelle Sexton and Mary Hensleigh, and a brother, Bill Carithers. A memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Sharon Reformed Presbyterian Church.
