Iowa City, Iowa - William Lyle Arthur, 75, Iowa City, died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at the VA Medical Center, Iowa City, after an extended illness. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Columbus City Cemetery. The Rev. Cathy Whitlatch will officiate. There will be no visittion. The Stacy-Lewis Funeral Home, Columbus Junction, is handling the arrangements. A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.Lewisfuneralhomes.com. Mr. Arthur was born April 5, 1928, in Cotter, the son of Evan and Ruth Peters Arthur. He graduated from Columbus High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from May 4, 1946, to March 4, 1948. He worked as a plumber in the Iowa City area for many years. Survivors include a son, Mark W. Arthur of Oceanside, Calif; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Keith, both of California; and a sister, Evelyn Quigley of Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lee and Leonard; and two sisters, Leona and Gwendlyn.
