I can't resist adding a tad more on the town of Ainsworth. I was privileged to attend a Chamber Opera at the renovated Ainsworth Opera House on May 5, 1999. The Culver-Stockton College Division of Fine Arts Opera Workshop students presented three one act chamber opera plays. Culver Stockton college is located in Canton, Missouri. This was actually the first opera performed in this Opera House as these little opera houses were more of a community center for various social functions in an earlier day. Michael Zahs, a history teacher and well known local historian introduced the audience to a bit of history on this particular building that had been used for a feed store in more recent years. When the feed store closed, a group of interested folks set out to acquire it and renovate it preserving as much of the old architecture as they could. I regret that I can not recall more of the history we heard from Mike that evening. An ice cream social is the most recent event held at the Ainsworth Opera House. Norma Jennings
