    3. ARINGTON family August 1999 I present the results of the limited research I did in Louisa County records for the surname ARINGTON. This could be a starting place if you are researching this name or collateral lines to it. I consulted records in Louisa County; I have not examined census records, nor read most probate and/or land records and have not researched outside Louisa County. I researched the ARINGTON name because of a query a year ago by Veronica Arington, RR 3, Box 53, Humboldt, NE 68376-9309. I finished what research I did today. I could not find the the obituary that was requested, but thought this family information should be made available in some form, hence this e-mail containing some family information. James Madison Arington, father unknown, was born 4 August 1817 in Ohio; he died on 28 March 1874 in Louisa County, Iowa, and is buried in the Fredonia Cemetery. He married (1) Ruth Lockna and had 3 children before they separated, namely James Clinton Arington (ancestor of Veronica), Amanda Arington and Thomas Arington. James Madison Arington married (2) in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1856 to Sarah Pommell/Pummell. Sarah was born 8 July 1848 in Danebridge, Ohio and died 13 November, 1909, in Columbus Junction. Iowa. James and Sarah came to Iowa in 1860. James served in the Civil War in Company I, First Artillery Regiment, but military records have not been sought or examined. James and Sarah had 8 children; they are dealt with separately in succeeding paragraphs. No attempt was made to trace descendants past the second generation, though some are named. Nothing has been entered into a computer genealogy program, this report being manually typed from the collection of raw data in Louisa County, for the most part. 1. Arington was born in 1859 presumably at Fredonia and died in 1936. He married Clara M. Worley (1869 - 1939) on 6 August 1887 in Louisa County. Known children are Kenneth M. Arington, Earnest D. Arington and possibly another John C. Arington. 3. Florence Adelia Arington was born 14 June 1861 at Fredonia; died 16 March 1911; was married 14 January 1884 in Louisa County to Joseph A. Warthman ((1857 - 1010) Florence and Joseph had a daughter, Ola, who married a Hafner, and a son, Cosson Wartham. 4. Harriet (Hattie) F. Arington was born in 1864, probably Fredonia; died in 1933; was married on 4 July 1888 in Louisa County to Samuel M. Harmon. The family lived in or near Farmington, Van Buren County, Iowa. They had at least one child, Lynn Harmon. 5. Martha (Mattie) Arington was born in 1866, probably Fredonia, and died in 1917; was married in Louisa County on 10 October 1884 to George E. Brackett (1857 - 1916). The family moved to Seattle, Washington, and had at least sons Lionel Guy and Glenn. 6. Alice May Arington wasborn, presumably at Fredonia, on 29 January 1868 and died ion 19 February 1868. 7. Joseph Bowers Arington was born in Louisa County on 15 March 1870; died 13/15 December 1949; he was a carpenter and lived in Columbus Junction. I have no record that he ever married, as he and his sister Fredonia lived together in the same house in Columbus Junction for over 50 years. 8. Fredonia (Dona) Almeda Arington was born in Fredonia on 30 January 1873; died on 3 March 1940 in Columbus Junction. Arington cemetery entries are primarily in Fredonia Cemetery and Columbus City Cemetery. There are Arington probate records, that have not been looked at, for Sarah J. Arington, Zelma May Arington, K. M. Arington, J. B. Arington, Earnest D. Arington and Fredonia A. Arington. I have obituaries for Sarah Arington, Florence Warthman, Joseph Wartham, J. B. Arington and Fredonia Arington. Hope someone can use this. From Keith Street Keith/Connie Street ckcasey@netins.net 325 Franklin Ave, Wapello, IA 52653-1515 319-523-8164
