    1. Purchasing Louisa County Books
    2. Keith/Connie Street
    3. Dear list, I have seen several questions repeated by different members desiring to purchase Louisa County materials, and feel that a little clarification is needed. This is the official web site of the Louisa County Genealogical Society and the Webmaster is Norma Jennings. Neither the LCGS nor Norma sell ANY books or other research materials, for Louisa County or anywhere else! Neither has a policy of researching queries that are submitted--individual list members respond to such queries and requests for lookups. The LCGS has no one assigned to monitor and answer any requests. List members do not have to be LCGS members. LCGS members receive society newsletters. Norma Jennings produces them and is co-editor of the publication. LCGS members, by snail-mail, may request research on family names. Addresses and policies and prices are on this website. LCGS has prepared and has produced numerous books providing research materials for Louisa County. The merchandising and publishing of these books has been done by the Iowa Genealogical Society. Click IGS Publications on this website and a complete list of available books to order, prices, etc. will come up. There is also a Louisa County Historical Society, separate from and independent of the LCGS. The two societies share ownership of co-mingled materials in the Heritage Center Library; the Genealogical Society provides the research assistance according to policies laid down by the Historical Society, owner of the building. The Historical Society has several publications about Louisa County that provide genealogical information. The Historical Society has self-published these books. The most important for all genealogists is the 1990 Cemetery Book, which lists all known burials in Louisa County Cemeteries (albeit there are some known errors and omissions). Each of over 60 cemeteries is indexed alphabetically--but there is no overall index. Len Bowen has a rough draft made of an every-name index for the entire 1990 volume plus the yearly supplements published. He is waiting for local society members to re-walk many cemeteries to clarify dates, spellings, names, ages, etc. and the end is not yet in sight for that. The objective, on completion, would be to have this published by the Iowa Genealogical Society in order to make the 1990 Cemetery Book easier to use. The Historical Society address is also on this Website. You must write them to get a list of the publications they currently have for sale. Our Genealogical Society used to list their publications, but they have criticised us for doing so. You now place your orders directly to the Historical Society. The Genealogical Society cannot be used as a go-between any longer. Please let me know if any of you have further questions.
