Bev, I too am working on Vandevort and Snyder. Adaline Rettew was first married to John Frederick Snyder in Lancaster Co., PA. After his death in 1850 in Louisa County she married J. P. Vandevort whose wife died about the same time. This marriage was in 1852. Each of them had children by their first marriage, and they became the parents of five more children, Winfield Scott, George, Albert, Addie, and Jane. In 1855 the combined Vandevort-Snyder family came to Putnam Co., MO from Louisa County. If we're researching the same family (and I feel certain we are), let's exchange information. I have material on some descendants but need to find ancestors for John Frederick and learn more about Adaline and her ancestors. Look forward to hearing from you.
